Summary of the Spicewood Neighborhood Association Annual Meeting

April 27, 2023, 7 PM, Monroe County Public Library Meeting Room 1C

The meeting commenced with an opening address by John Kennedy, who provided a brief overview of the Association and its history. The meeting was described as an initial step towards revitalizing the Association.

The members of the interim executive committee were introduced to the attendees.

The candidates for City Council from District 5, Jenny Stevens and Shruti Rana, were introduced to the attendees. Each candidate spoke briefly to introduce themselves and their reasons for running for City Council. The candidates also addressed the development of Hopewell and the cessation of curbside vacuum leaf collection.

The executive committee members for 2023 were ratified by the attendees. They are:

  • John Kennedy
  • Sandy Sabbagh
  • Ted Najam
  • Doris Wittenburg
  • Laura Neumeyer
  • Carol Seaman

John Kennedy presented an overview of the Spicewood covenant, while Ted Najam elaborated on the legal aspects of covenants. The discussion then shifted to the possibility of covenant violations in Spicewood. A detailed discussion on covenants and their violations ensued, and the executive committee was tasked with following up on the discussion and proposing any potential courses of action.

Other issues briefly discussed were:

  1. Maintenance of the Spicewood signs – two programs offered by HAND can provide funding for the sign’s maintenance. A volunteer also offered to assist with landscaping. The executive committee will investigate further.
  2. The executive committee will consider organizing a neighborhood picnic in late summer. Previous picnics have been highly successful.
  3. Little Free Library management – The LFL requires someone to monitor it regularly, organize the shelves, and request specific genres of books (children’s, young adult, adult) if required.
